Repairs to water main in western Mass. nearing end
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Work to repair a water main break in downtown Springfield is nearing completion.
The break in a six-inch water line near Tower Square was discovered Saturday morning and crews spent the weekend repairing it. The Republican of Springfield (bit.ly/19OopB4) reports that the Water and Sewer Commission expect the work to be completed by late Tuesday afternoon.
Water pressure from the break caused the soil under Bridge Street to erode, making part of it cave in. A section of Bridge Street remains closed while the water main is being fixed.
