A Day of Service honors Martin Luther King at Cleveland’s Alfred A. Benesch School

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Dozens of volunteers along with City Year Cleveland participated in a day of service Monday to honor Martin Luther King Jr. at Alfred A. Benesch School on Cleveland’s East Side.

The work included the construction of a painted rock garden, blanket making, bookmark making. In addition, interior work had volutneers painting motivational and positive messages on doors, as well as the rocks. Some of the messages: “It is better together,’’ and “Be the GOAT’’ – an acronym for Greatest of All Time.

U.S Sen. Sherrod Brown of Cleveland and his wife, author and former Plain Dealer columnist Connie Schultz, stopped by and joined in bookmark making and spoke to the crowd.

According to a release, work started in the morning with breakfast. Volunteers received T-shirts and lunch as the activity continued into the afternoon.
