Connecticut opens new section of East Coast Greenway

December 29, 2018

BOLTON, Conn. (AP) — A new 3-mile section of the East Coast Greenway has opened in Eastern Connecticut.

The stretch, which includes two major bridges, connects the Hop River State Park Trail in Bolton to the existing section of the Charter Oak Greenway in Manchester.

Construction began in October, 2015 and took a 1 ½ years longer than expected to complete.

Connecticut now has more than 90 miles of protected trail completed on its more than 200-mile portion of the East Coast Greenway, a system of trails for bicycles and pedestrians that is planned to stretch from Maine to Florida.

The trail extension officially opened to the public on Dec. 21, but officials are planning a more formal ceremony for the spring.
