Smith, a Republican congressman for three decades in Congressional District 21, will receive the award in a ceremony on March 22 at the New Braunfels Civic/Convention Center.

“He will be joining an array of prominent past honorees since 1974 including Presidents, U.S. Senators, entertainers, Governors, and business icons,” the group said in a statement.

Smith is the current chair of the Science, Space and Technology Committee, which has jurisdiction over NASA and other federal agencies. He’s also a member of the House Judiciary and Homeland Security committees.

Republican Chip Roy will replace Smith in the House in January.
