Troopers: 2 dogs survive being tossed from moving vehicle

December 14, 2018

MARATHON, N.Y. (AP) — State police say they’re looking for the people who tossed two dogs from a moving vehicle on an upstate New York highway.

Authorities say troopers patrolling Interstate 81 Wednesday morning near the Cortland-Broome county line spotted a tractor-trailer parked in the left lane.

After finding no one inside the truck, the troopers saw the driver walking down the highway carrying one badly injured beagle mix with another following behind him. The troopers tended to the dogs, with a K-9 handler providing first aid.

The truck driver from Syracuse told police he saw someone toss the dogs out the rear passenger window of an older Dodge Durango traveling in the southbound lanes.

The Broome County Humane Society says the more badly injured dog had to have its right front leg amputated.
