Snowmobile driver injured in crash with SUV near Sauk City

SAUK CITY — A snowmobile driver was transported via Med Flight to a Madison hospital after being injured in a crash with an SUV early Friday evening near Sauk City, according to a press release from Sauk County Sheriff Chip Meister.

Sheriff’s deputies found a 2011 Ford Explorer with heavy damage to its front and a 2016 Ski-Doo Renegade snowmobile off opposite sides of Highway 60 near the intersection with Baum Road in the town of Prairie du Sac after the crash was reported at 6:08 p.m. The SUV ended up on the south side of the roadway, while the snowmobile landed to the north.

An ambulance transported the snowmobile driver to Sauk Prairie Healthcare in Prairie du Sac, after which a Med Flight helicopter took the patient to Madison. The SUV driver was not injured.

Authorities rerouted traffic for about an hour while Highway 60 at Baum Road was closed. It reopened around 7:20 p.m.

Sauk City Fire Department, Sauk Prairie Ambulance Service, Sauk Prairie Police Department and Everett’s Towing also responded to the scene.

The incident remains under investigation.
