Woman killed in Baraboo house fire identified

The victim from a fatal fire Friday morning west of Baraboo has been identified as Kathleen Blakeslee, 60.

The structure fire was reported at 7:17 a.m. Friday. Upon arrival at E10488 Terrytown Road, the Baraboo Fire Department, Baraboo District Ambulance Service and the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office found heavy fire coming from the front of the home.

Firefighters began battling the blaze in the 1½-story single-family home and learned one occupant was missing after two others escaped. The fire department called for help from nearby departments, and first responders closed Terrytown from Cornfield Road to Highway BD. Once the fire was extinguished, the home was searched and Blakeslee’s body was found inside. The fire is being investigated by the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office, State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Baraboo Fire Department.

Baraboo Fire Chief Kevin Stieve reported that 30 firefighters from his and surrounding communities worked the scene.

Firefighters from the Reedsburg, North Freedom, Lake Delton, Merrimac and Kilbourn departments helped at the scene, as did Sauk Prairie EMS. Loganville and Sauk City firefighters filled in at the Baraboo station during the response.

Other agencies assisting at the scene including the Sauk County Salvation Army, Baraboo Police Department, Sauk County Highway Department and Alliant Energy.
