Payne leads Pt. Pleasant to victory

POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. — Cason Payne accounted for 230 yards and three touchdowns as Point Pleasant used a quick start in a Friday home game to put away Herbert Hoover, 53-21.

Point Pleasant scored the first 39 points and held a 39-7 halftime lead.

Payne rushed for 118 yards and two touchdowns on just nine carries, while completing 7 of 9 passes for another 112 yards and a touchdown to lead the Big Blacks offense, which piled up 448 total yards. Brady Adkins rushed for 90 yards and two touchdowns, including a 57-yard scoring jaunt, while Jason Wamsley hauled in three catches for 70 yards and a score. Also for the Big Blacks (4-0), Nick Parsons scored on runs of 5 and 17 yards and Christian Holland returned a kickoff 53 yards for a touchdown.

For Hoover (1-3), Ben Kee rushed for a 198 yards and two scores on 20 carries and caught two balls for 24 yards.

OAK HILL 40, SYMMES VALLEY 0: The Oaks (3-1) used a balanced rushing attack led by Bradley Chandler with 75 yards on 10 attempts. Chandler had a pair of 4-yard touchdown runs. Symmes Valley (2-2) had just 94 total yards.

MINGO CENTRAL 39, SISSON-VILLE 36: A game at Sissonville between two of the best in Class AA lived up to its billing.

Daylin Goad from Mingo Central (3-1) completed 17 of 24 passes for 328 yards and six touchdowns. Will Hackney from Sissonville (3-1) was 22 for 37 for 314 yards and three scores. Hackney also ran for 148 yards on 26 carries and scored twice.

Mingo Central brothers Drew and Devin Hatfield both had a pair of receiving touchdowns.

BELFRY 36, PIKEVILLE 21: Isaac Dixon of the Belfry Pirates (3-1) rushed nine times for 178 yards and two scores, including an 80-yard touchdown run right before the first half ended. Pikeville also has a 3-1 record.

POCA 62, LOGAN 36: Ethan Payne rushed for 235 yards and six touchdowns as Poca (4-0) remained unbeaten. Payne had touchdown runs of 6, 2, 19, 14, 19 and 43 yards.

Logan quarterback Charles Felder accounted for 284 yards and four touchdowns. Felder completed 8 of 21 passes for 203 yards and two scores while rushing for another 81 yards and two scores on 22 carries. Michael Hall of the Wildcats caught two touchdown passes and went 91 yards with a kickoff return for a touchdown.

CHAPMANVILLE 28, NITRO 0: Chapmanville’s Chase Berry passed for 106 yards and one touchdown and also scored a rushing touchdown. Nick Collier of the Tigers (2-2) rushed 21 times for 126 yards against the Bulldogs (1-3).

PORTSMOUTH 28, ROCK HILL 14: Junior running back Talyn Parker scored four touchdowns while rushing for 283 yards on 20 carries in the Portsmouth (3-1, 1-0 Ohio Valley Conference) victory.

GREEN 16, SCIOTOVILLE COMMUNITY 8: The Bobcats improved to 4-0 with a Southern Ohio Conference victory. Lonnie Smith carried 14 times for 170 yards and two touchdowns.

MEIGS 27, VINTON COUNTY 21 OT: Vinton County had the first possession in overtime and was stopped by the Marauders on fourth down. Meigs then converted on fourth down with Abe Lundy scoring on an 11-yard run.

NELSONVILLE-YORK 54, RIVER VALLEY 28: Keegan Wilburn caught a touchdown pass and ran for a TD as the Buckeyes (1-3) defeated the Raiders (0-4) in Bidwell, Ohio.

LAWRENCE COUNTY 37, GREENUP COUNTY 6: Noah West ran 29 times for 292 yards and five touchdowns as the Bulldogs (3-2) mauled the Musketeers (3-2). Lawrence County rushed for 500 yards on 51 carries. Dalton Halstead led Greenup County with 126 yards on the ground.

LEWIS COUNTY 52, FAIRVIEW 0: Garrett Applegate ran for 185 yards and two touchdowns as the Lions (1-3) pummeled the Eagles (0-3) in Vanceburg, Kentucky. Applegate also caught a touchdown pass.
