Lottery Player Wins $22 Million

November 18, 1989

NEW YORK (AP) _ Carlos Gill placed a Lotto bet at a card shop and emerged to encounter an elderly woman who couldn’t find her car in the parking lot.

He found it for her, and later he won $22 million.

″Maybe my good deed has been rewarded,″ the 56-year-old accountant said Friday.

Gill was the only player to hit the six New York Lotto numbers drawn Nov. 11 - 1, 8, 29, 32, 43 and 44. He let the lottery computer at the card shop choose the numbers for him.

Gill, who lives in West Haven, Conn., buys tickets fairly regularly for himself, a brother, a sister and a cousin, the lottery commission said in a statement.

They’ll share $1,047,619 a year, less taxes, for 20 years.
