August 26, 2018

A elderly Fremont man missing since Tuesday was found dead in the Elkhorn River.

The body of Charles Folsom, 90, was found during a search from the air about 6 p.m. Friday in Dodge County, Fremont police said.

Folsom was last seen alive about 11 a.m. Tuesday, and authorities issued an “endangered missing advisory.” The vehicle he was driving, a gray Chevrolet Equinox, was found Wednesday morning near the river.

Some of his personal property had been found, too. Police said his body was found about one mile from that location.

Rescuers set up a command center near 240th Street and West Maple Road in western Douglas County. They searched the river from there to Nickerson, Nebraska. By Thursday, authorities described the search as a “recovery mission.”

Hundreds of volunteers joined in the search, aided by drones, boats and a Nebraska State Patrol helicopter.
