SPRING FLOODING

KANSAS CITY, Mo. _ More towns are evacuating as the flooding Missouri River seeps over and breaches levees. The National Weather Service says the Missouri River will crest Friday in Atchison, Kansas, and St. Joseph, Missouri, at levels that fall just short of those reached during the historic 1993 flooding. SPRING FLOODING-NATIONAL SECURITY

OFFUTT AIR FORCE BASE, Neb. _ The Missouri River floodwater surging on to the air base housing the U.S. military’s Strategic Command overwhelmed round-the-clock sandbagging by airmen and others. They had to scramble to save sensitive equipment, munitions and dozens of aircraft. POLICE-INVOLVED SHOOTING _ Authorities have charged a burglary suspect shot by a police officer in a Des Moines suburb.
