Beans on the donation menu for Derby food bank

October 8, 2018

DERBY-Any variety of canned beans, except string beans, are what the St. Vincent dePaul food bank needs this month.

Marc Garofalo, Town/City clerk and former four-term mayor, said a collection box is available on the first floor of City Hall, 1 Elizabeth Street or may be brought into his office there.

Last month donors brought 150 jars and boxes of pasta and tomato sauce as well as 150 toothbrushes. Garofalo delivered them to the St. Vincent dePaul food bank, 237 Roosevelt Drive.

It was back in December, 2015 that City Hall employees decided to replace their Secret Santa gift-giving holiday program to one that could help the community. Every month since January, 2016 they have been collecting specific items of food requested by the food bank.
