Tenn. State Lineman Jamel Bell Charged
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) _ Tennessee State offensive lineman Jamel Bell faces several charges, including attempted murder, in his home state of Florida and was taken into custody Tuesday, police said.
Bell, 18, is a freshman from Lakeland, Fla., and is charged on a warrant from Osceola, Fla., stemming from a June 25 incident, Metro Nashville police spokesman Don Aaron said.
Bell is charged with armed robbery with a firearm, two counts of attempted felony murder, armed carjacking, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, two counts of grand theft of a firearm and grand theft, Aaron said.
Bell was in class Tuesday when he was taken into custody by Nashville police. He is being held without bond pending extradition to Florida.
The 6-foot-4, 320-pound Bell has played in all three games this season but has posted no statistics, according to the Tigers’ Web site.
