“GAME OF THRONES” FADES TO BLACK

LOS ANGELES (AP) — We know millions saw it. But did the millions like what they see? Now that the final episode of “Game of Thrones” has aired, some of those who have followed the series through all eight of its seasons are weighing in on the finale. As with any drama series, there are those who feel that the last episode of GOT neatly wrapped up all the loose ends. Others _ not so much. Among the highlights _ if you haven’t already gotten them _ King Brandon Stark ends up the “winner” _ but it’s kind of a hollow victory. He won’t get to sit on the Iron Throne, because it was consumed by dragon fire. And the Seven Kingdom empire he takes over is shy one kingdom. His sister Sansa annexed one, making her leader of a liberated Winterfell.

GAME OF THRONES - WHAT’S NEXT?

LOS ANGELES (AP) — That’s a wrap for “Game of Thrones.” Or is it? Even as the show’s eight-season run on HBO has come to an end, there’s still plenty of buzz about what might be next. Though the series has gone beyond the scope of the books that George R.R. Martin has already written, he still plans to finish and release two more books in the “Game of Thrones” series. And that can produce fodder for future projects. HBO says there is already a pilot in production, set in the same realm thousands of years earlier. And it says others may be in the works. What’s more, in last night’s finale there was a hint of another possible spinoff. Arya Stark is seen in one of the final images setting sail to unknown lands west of Westeros. A new series set in the land “where all the maps stop” may also be part of the “Thrones” mix going forward.

BOX OFFICE

LOS ANGELES (AP) — “John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum” is the nation’s top movie. The Keanu Reeves gore fest has eclipsed “Avengers: Endgame,” which slips to number two on the box office list. Meanwhile the Marvel movie continues to have its sights set on a bigger prize: top domestic and top international grossing movie ever. On the domestic side, “Avengers” is second only to “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” Internationally, it is just shy of “Avatar’s” $2.8 billion mark. Finishing third in this week’s box office race is “Pokémon Detective Pikachu,” followed by “A Dog’s Journey” and “The Hustle.”

TRAVIS TRITT “SHAKEN” BY TOUR BUS WRECK

CONWAY, S.C. It happened early Saturday along a South Carolina highway. In a tweet, Tritt said his bus swerved to avoid a collision between a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction that crashed head-on into a pickup truck. No one on the bus was hurt.

JUDGE WON’T DELAY SENTENCING FOR 2015 ‘THE BACHELOR’ STAR

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (AP) _ A judge has refused to delay sentencing for a northern Iowa farmer who appeared on ABC’s “The Bachelor” and who was involved in a fatal crash. Chris Soules has pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of leaving the scene of a serious injury accident. His lawyers had sought the sentencing delay, citing the prosecution’s lack of response to a motion regarding a presentence investigation. The judge denied the request last week and said the sentencing will be held Tuesday as scheduled. Soules appeared on “The Bachelor” and “Dancing With The Stars” in 2015. He was arrested after he rear-ended a tractor on April 24, 2017, killing 66-year-old Kenny Mosher. Soules called 911, performed CPR on Mosher and waited for first responders but left before officers arrived.

The new arrival joins his 5-year-old sister North, 3-year-old brother Saint and Chicago _ the kid, not the city _ born 15 months ago.

MATTHEW McCONAUGHEY GETS HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA

LONGVIEW, Texas (AP) — You could say it took Matthew McConaughey 30 years to get his high school diploma _ but not because he was a dummy. He earned the certificate in 1988 when he graduated from Longview High School in Texas _ but didn’t actually get the diploma then. They didn’t hand the actual documents to grads when they walked across the stage during the ceremony _ and for whatever reason, McConaughey never came back to get it. He has now, picking it up Friday when he returned to his alma mater to address the current crop of grads.

FOR ‘HOT ZONE’, MARGULIES CONFRONTS CLAUSTROPHOBIA AND EBOLA

LOS ANGELES (AP) _ Actress Julianna Margulies says she knew she was claustrophobic, but she didn’t realize just how much until she had to wear a sealed, full-body biosafety suit while filming the upcoming limited series “The Hot Zone.” Margulies spent hours in the suit while filming the six-part series about how the deadly Ebola virus appeared on U.S. soil in 1989. She says the suit is hot, sweaty and extremely constrictive. It actually drove her to tears. Despite that, she says the show’s story made it worth it.

STEVEN VAN ZANDT KEEPS ON ROCKING BUT AVOIDS THE P-WORD

NEW YORK (AP) _ There’s plenty of rock on Steven Van Zandt’s first album of original material in 20 years. There’s also soul and funk and some mean horn solos. What there isn’t plenty of is politics. The bandana-wearing guitarist for Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band, who in the past has never been shy about calling out politicians, has put aside partisanship in these divisive times. Says Van Zandt: “We need a break every now and then.”

PETE BUTTIGIEG TROLLS TRUMP IN FOX TOWN HALL

CLAREMONT, N.H. (AP) — Even before Pete Buttigieg (BOO’-tuh-juhj) went on Fox for a town hall yesterday, he was drawing fire from President Donald Trump. The president took to Twitter to complain that Fox was “wasting airtime” on the mayor of South Bend, Indiana since he’d never be president. Buttigieg got in a dig on Trump during his appearance. He says people keep up with Trump’s tweeting for the same reason people slow down to see a car wreck on the highway, saying “it is the nature of grotesque things that you can’t look away.” But for his part, Buttigieg says he pays little attention to Trump’s online ranting and raving.

MIKE TIRICO TO CALL THE INDY 500

UNDATED (AP) _ Mike Tirico (tur-REE’-koh) says as a youngster, he and his family would often watch the Indianapolis 500 together. This year, he’ll be watching again _ but he’ll also be calling the race. NBC will air the race this year, after outbidding ABC for the rights to do so. The change in network scenery means ABC’s streak of airing the race every year since 1965 until now ends. Tirico will handle the broadcast with help from former racecar driver Danica (DAN’-ih-kuh) Patrick, as well as other celebrities, analysts and reporters.
