ELKO, Nev. (AP) — Elko County residents will no longer get NBC programming from KENV-TV starting Jan. 1.

The Elko Daily Free Press reports NBCUniversal is ending the affiliation with the station, which will become a sci-fi channel.

NBC is also requiring the Elko Television District to broadcast NBC programming from Salt Lake City's KSL-TV because Elko is in the station's designated market area.

NBC programming had previously come through a Reno station.

TV district chairman Paul Gardner says the district can't currently import KSL but is working with the station's engineers to come up with a fix.

Elko Dish satellite TV and DIRECTV subscribers already receive KSL.

Gardner says the district will discuss seeking approval to again let Elko receive Reno NBC programming, including local news and weather.
