ROCKIES-MURPHY

ST. PETERSBURG _ Rockies first baseman Daniel Murphy probably will be sidelined for at least a month, Colorado manager Bud Black said Tuesday. The 34-year-old Murphy went 1 for 10 in two games after signing a $24 million, two-year contract. He was injured diving for a sharp grounder in the fourth inning Friday night against Miami. Murphy remained in the game and got his first hit with the Rockies in the ninth inning, but swelling in his finger worsened overnight and X-rays showed a fracture in the tip of his left index finger.

MLB-VERO BEACH-JACKIE ROBINSON

VERO BEACH _ The former Dodgertown spring training camp will be named the Jackie Robinson Training Complex and be used for Major League Baseball’s amateur development initiatives. Then based in Brooklyn, the Dodgers started training in Vero Beach in 1948. The franchise moved to Los Angeles after the 1957 season but kept spring training at Vero Beach through 2008. The team shifted to Glendale, Arizona, the following year.

JAGUARS MOVES

JACKSONVILLE _ Free agent running back Benny Cunningham and offensive tackle Josh Wells have signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars for added depth. The 5-foot-10 Cunningham is entering his seventh NFL season and likely will help mostly on special teams.

College Football:

GEORGIA-ACC

ATHENS, Ga. _ Georgia is adding Atlantic Coast Conference schools Clemson and Florida State to its future football schedules. Both home-and-home series were announced Tuesday.

AAF:

AAF SUSPENDED

SAN DIEGO _ The Alliance of American Football has ended its first season prematurely and told most employees that they will be terminated as of Wednesday. Employees were notified of the decision in a letter from the AAF board on Tuesday afternoon. The board essentially is majority owner Tom Dundon, who also owns the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes.
