Photos: Korean supermarket H Mart opens in Katy
H Mart, a Korean supermarket chain, opened its Katy location on Friday.
The 47,000-square-foot grocery store features fresh produce, meat, seafood and imported goods. The store also has a French bakery, a food court and cosmetics and household goods shops.
The Katy supermarket, 23119 Colonial Parkway, is H Mart’s third in the Houston area after its Bellaire and Spring Branch locations. The New Jersey-based retailer, which started with one store in New York in 1982, now has more than 65 stores across the U.S., as well as locations in the United Kingdom and India.
The new H Mart anchors Katy Asian Town, a 150,000-square-foot shopping center on the northeast corner of Interstate 10 and the Grand Parkway. The Pan Asian-themed plaza, which is about 60 percent occupied, will feature 51 restaurants, shops and businesses.
Several restaurants and shops, including Taiwanese milk tea shop Chatime, Japanese cream puff shop Beard Papa’s and Korean cosmetics store Tony Moly are now open. Future phases of the development call for more restaurants and shops, condominiums and medical offices.
