Hosokawa Takes Lead in Japan Golf
INAGI, Japan (AP) _ Kazuhiko Hosokawa shot a 7-under par 63 Thursday to take a two-stroke lead after the first round of the Nippon Series JT Cup, a tournament for the year’s top golfers in Japan.
The 28-year-old Hosokawa, seeking his win this season and sixth overall, had seven birdies and no bogeys on the 6,958-yard Tokyo Yomiuri Country Club course.
Toshimizu Izawa, 31, was two strokes back after getting six birdies with one bogey. He already has won two tournaments this season and is third in the Japan PGA earnings list at $955,700.
Naomichi ``Joe″ Ozaki, who leads the money earnings list at $1.18 million, was tied for fourth at 67. Defending champion Katsumasa Miyamoto shot a 72 and was tied for 16th.
The winner earns $294,000.
