LUKE BRYAN CONCERT PROMPTS SCHOOL CLOSING

EDGEFIELD, S.C. (AP) — Students in Edgefield County, South Carolina, will get Oct. 5 off from school because Luke Bryan is in town. The State newspaper reports the school district will close schools that day because Bryan will be performing at a farm in North Augusta. The South Carolina Highway Patrol anticipates heavy traffic. The students will make up the day before winter break.

LIBRARY OF CONGRESS WILL GIVE GERSHWIN PRIZE TO GLORIA AND EMILIO ESTEFAN

WASHINGTON (AP) — Gloria and Emilio Estefan will receive the Gershwin Prize from the Library of Congress. It’s the first time the prize has been given to a married couple or to someone of Hispanic descent. Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden says the Estefans’ “professional and personal journey truly mirrors the American dream.” The prize will be given during an all-star tribute concert in Washington in March. The concert will air later on PBS stations.

BEASTIE BOYS ANNOUNCE BOOK TOUR

NEW YORK (AP) — The surviving Beastie Boys will do a tour, but it’s a book tour, not music. Ad-Rock and Mike D will promote the book “Beastie Boys: Live and Direct” with readings, question-and-answer sessions, a Beastie Boys exhibit and music by Mix Master Mike. It starts Oct. 29 in New York and will go to Los Angeles, San Francisco and London. The book comes out Oct. 30.

BLONDIE PLANS CUBA TRIP

NEW YORK (AP) — Blondie will go to Cuba as part of a four-day cultural exchange program. The group will play two concerts during their trip March 14-18 in Havana. The trip includes performances by Cuban musicians, visits to museums and galleries, and photography and architecture tours. While individual travel for U.S. citizens to Cuba is currently discontinued, organizer Dreamcatcher Events is licensed to bring fans along for the trip. Prices range from $2,700 to $5,600. Blondie drummer Clem Burke says the band has experimented with Caribbean sounds for years on songs like “Rapture” and “The Tide Is High.” He says the trip will have “a really special energy.”

BILLIE EILISH GAINS INSPIRATION FROM “SHERLOCK”

CHICAGO (AP) — Billie Eilish (EYE’-lish) and her brother are so into the TV show “Sherlock” that it inspired her latest single. Eilish says she and her brother wrote the song “You Should See Me In A Crown” because the character Jim Moriarty said it. She says they wrote it from the perspective of a dangerous person who could control a lot. The melody was one they had come up with nearly three years ago and forgot about until recently.

PJ HARVEY WRITES MUSIC FOR LONDON PRODUCITON

UNDATED (AP) — PJ Harvey will write the score for a stage adaptation of “All About Eve.” It will run in London from Feb. 2 to May 11. Gillian Anderson and Lily James will star.

“WEIRD AL” YANKOVIC STARS IN WEEZER VIDEO FOR “AFRICA”

UNDATED (AP) — It’s “Weird Al” doing Weezer doing Toto. “Weird Al” Yanokovic stars in the newly released video for Weezer’s version of the Toto song “Africa.” The video is a copy of the Weezer video for “Undone,” although Yankovic is dressed like Weezer singer Rivers Cuomo from the “Buddy Holly” video. Weezer say of the video, “The blessings don’t stop.” Weezer covered “Africa” after a fan kept bugging them to do it.

CELINE DION’S LAS VEGAS RUN ENDS IN JUNE

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Celine Dion is ending her Las Vegas residency. She will close out her time at Caesars Palace on June 8. Dion had a residency there from 2003 to 2007, then started it again in 2011. She’s performed nearly 1,100 shows in Vegas.
