New Ellenton investigators connect Aiken man with September gas station robbery
The New Ellenton Police Department charged an Aiken man last week in connection with an armed robbery at the town’s local gas station in September.
Chandler Mann, 21, is charged with armed robbery and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to jail records.
On Sept. 22, New Ellenton officers responded to the Exxon gas station at 519 Main St. after receiving reports an armed robbery had just occurred at the store, said Lt. Shawn Middleton, with the New Ellenton Police Department.
The employee at the Exxon told police a man came into the store armed with a weapon and demanded money from the register, police reported.
The agency immediately began an investigation into the armed robbery in an attempt to identify a suspect, Middleton said.
Over the next few months, investigators poured over evidence from the case, eventually collecting enough connecting Mann to the robbery, he said.
The agency issued an arrest warrant for Mann in November.
He was arrested on Nov. 29 and taken to the Aiken County detention center, where he is still being as of held Monday afternoon.
