Wild Thing Sues City Council
STEPHENVILLE, Texas (AP) _ The Wild Thing isn’t ready to hand the ball over yet.
After watching his bid to open a sports bar get vetoed by the City Council last month, former major league pitcher Mitch ``Wild Thing″ Williams has sued.
The lawsuit asks that Stephenville’s zoning code be ruled unconstitutional. Williams alleged that the council’s decision not to allow him to open the Bull Pen Sports Bar near Tarleton State University was ``arbitrary, capricious and unreasonable,″ especially since the Planning and Zoning Commission already had approved it.
The lawsuit contends the city abused its power to regulate alcohol-related businesses. The city has 20 days in which to answer the lawsuit.
Williams had his best years with the Philadelphia Phillies and was one of the most feared _ albeit erratic _ relievers in baseball before retiring in 1995.
