INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) _ Manistique extended her unbeaten streak in California to eight races Saturday night with a 4 1/2-length victory over Yolo Lady in the $400,000 Vanity Handicap for fillies and mares at Hollywood Park.
Ridden by Chris McCarron, the 4-year-old filly covered 1 1/8 miles in 1:48.
Manistique’s seven previous wins at Southern California tracks have been by an average of more than five lengths and include the Santa Margarita Handicap and La Canada at Santa Anita and the Bayakoa Handicap and Hollywood Oaks at Hollywood Park.
She picked up a purse of $240,000 to boost her career earnings for 505 Farms to $916,700.
As the 1-2 favorite, Manistique paid $3, $2.60 and $2.10, while Yolo Lady paid $5.60 and $3.60 and Bella Chiarra was $4.40 to show.
Also Saturday, General Challenge defeated Desert Hero by two lengths as they made their first starts since the Kentucky Derby in the $125,000 Affirmed Handicap for 3-year-olds.
The 3-5 favorite, General Challenge paid $3.20, $2.40 and $2.10. Desert Hero returned $3.40 and $2.20, while Crowning Storm paid $2.40 to show.
The victory was the fifth in seven starts for General Challenge, who picked up a purse of $75,000 to increase his earnings for Golden Eagle Farms to $717,900.
