ROCHESTER, Minn. (AP) _ Arkansas athletic director Frank Broyles was recovering Saturday from surgery to remove a cancerous prostate gland.
Broyles, 77, was doing well following Friday’s surgery at the Mayo Clinic, said Arkansas sports information director Kevin Trainor.
After the operation, doctors told Broyles’ family that all of the cancer had been removed, and that it hadn’t spread beyond the prostate.
Broyles, who made his diagnosis public in June, said he was fortunate to have some of the best doctors available _ those who discovered the cancer in Arkansas, and at the Mayo Clinic.
``From my initial diagnosis to the many tests that were run in my time at the clinic, the doctors have been very thorough and impressive,″ Broyles said in a statement released by Trainor. ``Their knowledge and attention to detail put me at ease.″
Broyles was expected to stay at the clinic over the weekend before returning home to Arkansas next week.
