Snowshoe Mountain Resort announces target opening day and 2018-2019 winter events schedule

October 9, 2018

SNOWSHOE, W.Va. — Snowshoe Mountain Resort has set their target opening date for the 2018/19 winter season for Wednesday, Nov. 21.

Snowshoe has invested nearly $4M in snowmaking and grooming upgrades this offseason. Resort officials say the improvements they’ve made to their snowmaking system will allow them to open more terrain earlier in the season and maintain the snow surface more consistently, while also dramatically reducing their energy usage and carbon footprint.

“The impact of these upgrades is going to be felt as soon as cold temperatures arrive.” said Ken Gaitor, Mountain Operations Director. “These new guns will allow us to make more snow in shorter windows of time. With cooperative weather, our core terrain in the Basin that we traditionally open first will open

very quickly this year. We’ve also made it a point to address some former problem areas. Shay’s Revenge is one of our most popular expert-only trails, but in the past it has been one of the last trails to open and one of the first to close. Now it’s lined with all-new snowguns from top-to-bottom and we’re very excited about that.”

Also new at the Resort for this coming season will be several new dining options, re-vamped luxury lodging options via the Brigham Collection, and a new rental facility at the base of the mountain, where guests can pick up all of their equipment, or get fitted for boots and have their equipment delivered right to their condo.
