2 arrested in armed robbery, assault at Milford hotel
MILFORD - Two Bridgeport residents have been arrested in the armed robbery and assault of a clerk at the Mayflower Motel on Woodmont Road Monday night.
During the robbery that happened around 9:45 p.m., the motel clerk was knocked unconscious after being struck in the face with a firearm.
Elben Quinones, 51, of McKinley Street, and Melanie Lugo, 34, of Prospect Street, were arrested Tuesday after being located in a Bridgeport motel.
Both were charged with first-degree assault on an elderly person, first-degree larceny and related conspiracy charges.
The investigation showed that Quinones “baited the victim out from the back office by claiming the lobby microwave was broken,” police said in a release.
“When the victim responded, [Quinones] grabbed the victim by the neck and pointed a handgun in the victim’s face. The victim fought back and was hit in the face with the handgun and thrown across the room causing the victim to lose consciousness.”
Quinones then took the cash register and other items from the office and fled across the street to a waiting vehicle, operated by Lugo, police said.
“Through fast-acting and vigilant investigation, the suspect vehicle information was obtained which led to arrest warrants being issued” for the two.
The motel clerk was evaluated at a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Quinones and Lugo are being held on $250,000 and will be arraigned in Milford Superior Court on Wednesday.
