Route 28 lane restrictions begin Friday morning

A section of Route 28 will undergo major construction this year.

According to PennDOT a single-lane restriction will be in place in both directions of Route 28 between the Tarentum and Natrona Heights exits starting Friday and carrying through to Tuesday.

Work on either side of the road will start and end at different times to accommodate commuters:

• Southbound - 9 a.m. Friday morning continuously through 5 a.m. Monday morning

• Northbound - 7 p.m. Friday night continuously through 2 p.m. Tuesday afternoon

The work performed is part of a $34.34 million road construction project which, according to PennDOT, includes concrete patching, asphalt overlay, bridge preservation , drainage and guide rail improvements, installation of an automatic bridge de-icing system and lighting upgrades.

The project stretches between Butler County and bridges over Bailies Run Road in East Deer Township.

Lindy Paving is performing the majority of the work, according to PennDOT.
