Northern Iowa 87, Indiana State 72
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) _ Brian Carpenter had 21 points and Jason Daisy added 20 as Northern Iowa beat Indiana State 87-72 Saturday in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Northern Iowa (10-7 overall, 4-5 MVC) trailed much of the first half, but took a 30-29 lead on a 3-pointer by Munib Dzuho with 5:09 to play before halftime. The Panthers took a 42-37 lead into the intermission.
Indiana State (7-12, 3-8) battled back to within three, 64-61, with 7:17 left to play on a Carl Reeder layup. But Northern Iowa answered with a 17-2 run. Daisy started the run with a layup and ended it with another, giving Northern Iowa an 81-63 lead with 2:11 to play.
Reeder led the Sycamores with 17 points. Cory DeGroote and Derrick Stroud each added 12, and Jayson Wells came off the bench for 10 for Indiana State.
Dzuho had 12 points for the Panthers on 4-of-5 3-point shooting. Darian DeVries added 11.
The Panthers were playing without Sredrick Robinson, who was suspended indefinitely from the team Friday after he was arrested on drug charges. Robinson had started in Northern Iowa’s four previous games. Brian Heying started at forward in his place.
