None hurt in afternoon house fire
No one was hurt in a house fire that badly damaged the kitchen area.
Firefighters were called just after 1 p.m. to a house in the 1200 block of Pelham Drive on reports of smoke and fire visible on the outside. When the first engine arrived within a minute, flames were extending through the roof, according to a press release.
Firefighters were able to get the fire under control in 17 minutes, and the house received heavy fire damage to the roof and kitchen area in the rear of the house, as well as moderate smoke and water damage. No people or pets were inside at the time of the fire, according to the release.
The fire remains under investigation.
