ROYAL COUPLE UNVEILS, NAMES, BABY

LONDON (AP) — He slept through his first-ever news conference. But it didn’t matter, as Archie Mountbatten-Windsor made his public debut. The first child of Megan Markle and Prince Harry snuggled in the arms of his mom as the couple made its first public appearance since giving birth Monday. Meghan describes the baby as “really calm,” prompting Harry to quip, “I wonder who gets that from.” Mom calls the new baby “a dream” and that the child already “has the sweetest temperament.” The couple did not disclose why they chose his first and middle names. For the record, Archie is a name that has meanings like “genuine,” “bold” and “brave.” It had already started to become a popular baby name in Britain _ and one can only imagine that its stock will continue to rise now that it has been given to Harry and Meghan’s first child.

ROYAL BABY: THAT’S A WRAP!

LONDON (AP) — It’s probably a good thing Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor didn’t stir through his first public appearance _ one can only wonder what the royal baby would have thought if he knew people were paying so much attention to his outfit than to him. The child was decked out in a hand-finished shawl and cashmere company by a Nottingham firm that has swaddled royal babies for decades. The choice of outfit was noted by the always attentive media, which noted the couple’s choice was a sign they aren’t as willing to buck royal family trends as some have suggested _ or feared.

GEORGE CLOONEY - ROYAL BABY

LOS ANGELES (AP) — George Clooney is good pals with the Duchess of Sussex _ and he says he hopes that the media will cut her some slack now that she is a mom. Clooney tells The Associated Press that Meghan Markle should be treated as “a young woman who just had a baby” _ in other words, “be a little kinder.” Clooney has been outspoken in his defense of Meghan, a former actress and American, who has been the subject of harsh gossip in some publications.

R. KELLY’S DAY IN COURT

CHICAGO (AP) — He didn’t end up back in prison _ and he caught a do-over in a case that would have seen him lose by default. All in all, it was a productive day for R. Kelly _ even though he had to shell out $62,000 in back child support. The payment was the resolution of the second of two hearings he appeared at in Chicago yesterday. In the first, the R&B star won a second chance in a civil lawsuit filed by one of the women who has accused him in his sexual abuse case. In that matter, Kelly’s lawyers argued successfully that he didn’t respond to a subpoena in that case _ because he’s illiterate.
