Giants Claimed Servais on Waiver
DENVER (AP) _ Scott Servais is heading back to San Francisco.
Servais, who spent the 1999 season with San Francisco before signing with Colorado in December, was claimed by the Giants on Thursday after the Rockies placed the catcher on waivers.
The Giants lead the NL West by three games. San Francisco beat Pittsburgh 10-2 Thursday.
``We’re going to get some reinforcements now that it’s September,″ manager Dusty Baker said after the victory.
Servais hit .218 with one home run and 13 RBIs in 33 games with Colorado. He had not played for the Rockies since straining his right calf in the second week of July.
Assigned to Triple-A Colorado Springs after the injury, Servais hit .292 with three homers and 12 RBIs in 20 games with the Sky Sox.
Catcher Josh Bard, Colorado’s third-round draft pick in 1999, took Servais’ place on the Colorado Springs roster. Bard hit .285 with two home runs and 25 RBIs at Class A Salem.
