Mets’ Alfonzo Out With Back Strain
NEW YORK (AP) _ Mets second baseman Edgardo Alfonzo left New York’s game against Philadelphia on Tuesday night after the fourth inning with lower back soreness.
Alfonzo, who has a history of back problems, complained of tightness in his back after Monday’s game. He was examined by back specialist Dr. Tom Ehrico Tuesday and was told that he had a strain of the facet joint in the lower back, but he should be able to play.
``When I swing to far I feel a pull,″ said Alfonzo, who was 0-for-2 in the game. ``With the treatment I have, I should be fine.″
Alfonzo is batting .250 with eight homers and 19 RBIs. He is listed day to day.
