Bitter cold and gusty winds swept across the eastern U.S. Monday with falling temperatures replacing the weekend’s falling snow. The National Weather Service had forecast that temperatures would be more than 20 degrees below normal across the Northeast, with wind gusts up to 30 mph and wind chills approaching minus 40 degrees (-4 degrees Celsius) in northern New York and Vermont. NEW YORK _ J’Nai Bridges was just 24 and still in school when she sang her first “Carmen” as a young artist at the Glimmerglass Festival in 2011. Bridges will be trying on that role again, headlining a production of Bizet’s masterpiece at the San Francisco Opera in June.
