Herd women announce 2018-19 slate
HUNTINGTON — Marshall women’s basketball unveiled its full 2018-19 schedule on Wednesday, a slate that features 16 of 29 games at home and is highlighted by road games against Wisconsin and Clemson prior to Conference USA action.
In their second year under head coach Tony Kemper, the Herd gets its season underway on Nov. 7 with a home game against Indiana State at Cam Henderson Center.
“We are excited to release our 2018-19 schedule,” Kemper said in a release. “Obviously, it is another challenging slate that should prepare us for what will be a very good C-USA women’s basketball league this year. Tipping off with Indiana State out of the Missouri Valley gets it going with a tough test right away.”
Following the season opener against the Sycamores, Marshall hits the road for three of its next four with contests at Bowling Green, Southern Illinois and Appalachian State, taking the team through Thanksgiving break.
After that road span, however, Marshall finishes its non-conference slate with six of its final eight games at home — the lone exceptions being a Dec. 4 contest at Big Ten member Wisconsin and a Dec. 18 battle at ACC foe Clemson.
“Going on the road to ACC and Big Ten opponents will be exciting opportunities for our young ladies,” Kemper said.
Marshall opens Conference USA action with a Jan. 3 contest at home against Old Dominion. The regular-season finale is also a home date against FIU on March 7.
After a 9-20 year last season, having 16 of 29 games at Cam Henderson Center — including five in December leading into conference play — should be a benefit for Kemper and the Herd.
“We have worked hard throughout the summer and look forward to seeing all of our fans in the Henderson Center for Marshall women’s basketball,” Kemper said.
