3 siblings going to funeral killed in Arkansas plane crash
RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Authorities say three siblings and a pilot were killed in a small plane crash in Arkansas as they flew to Tennessee to attend an uncle’s funeral.
Pope County Coroner Danny White says the siblings’ parents were awaiting their arrival in Knoxville last Thursday when the plane crashed into Crow Mountain near Russellville.
Pope County sheriff’s office said Tuesday that the badly burned victims were identified using DNA testing. It says the victims are the 65-year-old pilot, Philip Cowger; 48-year-old Robert Harris; 43-year-old Wesley Harris; and 41-year-old Julie Harris Lefevre.
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (http://bit.ly/1HqXeY0 ) says the medical examiner will report by the end of the week whether the crash or the resulting fire killed them.
White says the National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash as an accident.
This story has been corrected to show that the National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash as an accident, not the National Transportation Board.
