Opera Singer Terfel To Miss Shows
NEW YORK (AP) _ Opera singer Bryn Terfel has withdrawn from the title role in concert performances of Stephen Sondheim’s ``Sweeney Todd″ next month because he is still recovering from back surgery.
The Welsh bass-baritone withdrew from performances of Offenbach’s ``Tales of Hoffman″ at the Metropolitan Opera in February because of back pain. He also missed performances in London last month.
George Hearn, who won an Emmy Award when he performed Sweeney Todd on television, will sing the part in the New York Philharomonic production that co-stars Patti LuPone as Mrs. Lovett.
