HUNTINGTON — Heading into the final weekend of the regular season, Marshall University’s baseball team wasn’t sure if the Conference USA Tournament was in its future.

All it took was one weekend to turn the Thundering Herd from an uncertainty to a team that no one necessarily wants to face as the tournament opens Wednesday in Biloxi, Mississippi.

Sixth-seeded Marshall (28-26) will bat leadoff for the tournament, taking on No. 3 seed Louisiana Tech (34-22) at 10 a.m. Wednesday in MGM Park.

Marshall entered the final regular season weekend in a six-team logjam within 1 1/2 games of each other and only two spots available in the C-USA Tournament. Marshall swept a three-game series from Rice to earn a berth.
