Sutherlin runs away from St. Mary’s, 55-35

SUTHERLIN — The Sutherlin girls basketball team downed St. Mary’s, 55-35, in a Far West League game Friday night at the Dog Pound.

Sutherlin (9-10, 3-2 FWL) trailed 11-0 to begin the game, but only trailed 16-12 after the first quarter.

The Bulldogs got a boost in the second period as Savannah McHugill had eight points. McHugill finished with 13 points in the contest. Abby Masterfield had 15 points, 10 coming in the second half. Jadyn Vermillion added 10 points.

Sutherlin shut down the Crusaders (9-7, 2-3) after the first quarter, giving up only 19 points the rest of the game.

Sutherlin plays at Cascade Christian on Tuesday.
