Church Women United plans Human Rights Day
The local Church Women United will celebrate Human Rights Day Saturday, Jan. 19, in the church hall at Watertown Moravian Church, 510 Cole St.
The day will begin with registration at 8:30 a.m., followed by breakfast at 9 a.m. and the program at 10 a.m. There is no charge for the breakfast, but a freewill offering would be appreciated. Preregistration is not necessary.
The theme for the day is “Reaching for Wholeness in Solidarity With God’s Creation.” The group will pray, listen to Scripture and join in song while keeping in mind God made all creation to live in unity. To help with local and national expenses, an offering will be taken.
This celebration is observed across the country on this day in January. As part of the program each year, a local person is recognized for service to the community with the Human Rights Award.
This year, the award will go to Dawn Westenberg. One of her contributions is directing the Watertown Food Pantry. Her family and friends, as well as all local people, are invited to attend. Attendees are asked to bring a donation for the food pantry or Personal Essentials Pantry.
