Trains Collide in S. Africa, 2 Dead
JOHANNESBURG, South Africa (AP) _ A commuter train plowed into the rear of a freight train near Johannesburg today, killing at least two people and injuring more than a dozen, police said.
More than an hour after the crash people were still apparently trapped inside the wreckage, said police Inspector Mary Martins Engelbrecht.
``We have 20 injured and two to three dead,″ Engelbrecht told The Associated Press from the crash site. She said the casualty toll may rise.
The crash happened west of Johannesburg near the afternoon rush hour when trains are normally packed with commuters.
Engelbrecht discounted a radio report that said 180 people had been hurt.
