BHS wrestlers split triangular
WAVERLY -- The Beatrice wrestling team split a pair of duals during a triangular Tuesday night in Waverly.
The Orangemen defeated Auburn 55-21, but lost to host team Waverly 47-36.
Beatrice coach Jordan Johnson said the team wrestled well.
“We closed the gap on Waverly from our dual opening weekend and that is with our 170 being injured,” Johnson said. “I believe some of my young kids and inexperienced kids are really learning how to fight and stay in good position which is giving them chances to stay in matches. We had a lot of great performances.”
Picking up wins in the win over Auburn included Tanner York, Drew Arnold, Trevor Reinke, Cole Maschmann, Jarrett Koch, Brody Nelson, Dakota Adams, Zach Markey, Jackson Zhang and Bryce Karlin.
Picking up wins in the loss to Waverly included Drew Arnold, Trevor Reinke, Cole Maschmann, Jacob Karlin, Brody Nelson and Tanner York.
“Tanner (York) beat undefeated Jalen Maher 7-2 and controlled the match from the beginning,” Johnson said. “Trevor Reinke, a freshma, beat Drew Keller, who had over 40 wins last year. We had several others wrestle really well.”
Beatrice will have its last competition before the holiday moratorium Thursday night when they host Bennington. A twist to that dual will be that it will take place on the stage of the Hevelone Center rather than the Ozone.
Junior varsity matches are slated to begin at 6 p.m. with varsity matches to follow.
“I am excited for our Bennington Dual that will be in the Hevelone Center on Thursday,” Johnson said.
