Inmate at SCI-Greene discovered dead in cell, according to state corrections officials
A 47-year-old inmate at the State Correctional Institute at Greene was discovered dead in his cell Wednesday.
The inmate, Eric King of Pittsburgh, was discovered hanging in his cell at approximately 10:15 a.m. as employees were delivering lunch meals in the housing unit, according to the state Department of Corrections.. He was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical service personnel.
State police will conduct an investigation, according to Acting Superintendent Michael Zaken. The Greene County Coroner will determine the cause and manner of death.
King was serving a 2-to-4-year sentence for prohibitive offensive weapons out of Allegheny County, according to Zaken. He was committed to SCI-Greene July 13.
