New details emerge in Milford man’s death
MILFORD - A Milford man - charged in the beating death of 49-year-old city man - will be arraigned in Superior Court on Tuesday.
Ricky Garcia, 57, of 583 Anderson Ave, was charged with first-degree manslaughter in the death of Christopher Peckham.
Garcia is being held on a $250,000 bond.
Peckham and Garcia were involved in a fight at the property Sunday night. No weapon was involved, said Officer Michael Devito.
Garcia is accused of beating Peckman with his bare hands and feet.
An autopsy performed Monday at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide, caused by blunt trauma to the upper torso.
Peckham suffered several broken ribs and vertebrae and also “severe soft tissue injuries,” Devito said.
Garcia called 911 at around 10 p.m. Sunday reporting he found Peckham deceased.
“Peckham’s body was located at the bottom of a handicap ramp, lying face up and appeared to have several blunt trauma/wounds throughout his face, eyes, torso and legs,” police said in a statement. “He also had lacerations and appeared he was recently bleeding on his face, nose and chest.”
An investigation over the next 23 hours included interviews with the nearly dozen residents that lived on the property. About six residents, including Peckham and his sister, lived in the Anderson Avenue house.
“The investigation led to the arrest of Garcia, who is accused of assaulting Peckham with his hands and feet, then with another male, dragging Peckham outside of the residence, unconscious, but believed to still be alive,” police said.
“Garcia stated to detectives that he recalled kicking Peckham two times and that afterwards he just lied limp,” police said.
Garcia could not recall any further details about the physical altercation.
