Kleinheinz, Otto Win Luge Races

KOENIGSSEE, Germany (AP) _ Austria’s Markus Kleinheinz and Germany’s Sylke Otto won luge singles races Sunday at the European Open, a special two-day elimination event.

Kleinheinz, the World Cup leader, swept down the track in 48.363 seconds, ahead of Germany’s Georg Hackl at 48.461 and Italy’s Armin Zoeggeler at 48.616.

``Kleinheinz is just unbeatable right now,″ Hackl said. ``Second is about where I belong at the moment.″

Otto was timed in 48.697, leading a 1-2-3 German sweep. Barbara Niedernhuber was second in 48.710 and Silke Kraushaar was third in 48.787.

The men’s doubles winners were Olympic champions Patric Leitner and Alexander Resch of Germany.

In the overall standings, based on two races in each discipline, Kleinheinz was first, followed by Hackl and David Moeller of Germany.

The overall doubles went to Leitner and Resch. Next were Andreas Linger-Wolfgang Linger of Austria and Christian Oberstolz-Patric Gruber of Italy.

Otto was the overall women’s winner, with Kraushaar second and Niedernhuber third.
