Hawley Road Bridge to be replaced, traffic detoured Jan. 14

January 4, 2019

Hawley Road Bridge in Logan Township will be closed to all traffic beginning Jan. 14 for construction, according to a press release from the Mason County Road Commission.

Hawley Road will be closed between Campbell Road and Masten Road, and traffic will be detoured from Walhalla Road to Kinney Road to Masten Road.

The bridge and roadway are scheduled to be reopened to traffic by June 14.

Construction will include removing the existing bridge, which is a single-span structure 49 feet long that crosses the South Branch of the Pere Marquette River.

The existing bridge was originally built in 1900 and reconditioned in 1973. The bridge will be removed and replaced with a new bridge, which will be 90 feet long by 31 feet wide.

The primary contractor is Davis Construction, Inc., based in Lansing. Traffic will be detoured by the contractor as part of the contract.

The $1,048,000 project is funded by the Michigan Department of Transportation, the Federal Highway Administration and the Mason County Road Commission.
