BALTIMORE (AP) _ Rasheed Sparks came off the bench to score a game-high 17 points and lead Morgan State University to a 69-63 victory Thursday over the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game.
Morgan State scored 24 of the game’s first 31 points, but still had to fight off a stubborn Hawks (6-11, 2-7) team that came as close as three points, 36-33, at the 16:51 points of the second half on two free throws by Joel Hoover.
The scoring went back and forth for nine minutes when the Bears (5-11, 4-4) went on a 12-0 run with Dwayne Holmes leading the charge with six of the 12 points.
Morgan’s Tremaine Byrd scored 11 as Chris Watson and Jerard Rucker added 10. The Hawks were led by Bram Reynolds with 14 points. Hoover scored 13 and Marcus Cheeks added 10.
