NEW YORK (AP) _ Say it ain't so: The Beav turned 50 on Tuesday!

``Right now I feel like I could do 50 more,'' Jerry Mathers said.

The star of ``Leave it to Beaver'' said he is in better shape now than he was as a younger man. He has lost 36 pounds in the last year after taking up a regular exercise program.

``The doctor told me I was badly out of shape,'' he said. ``I had high blood pressure and diabetes, and If I didn't take care of myself I wouldn't be here in another three to five years.''

Mathers plans a belated birthday bash Aug. 1 at Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, Calif. Among his invited fans: Steven Spielberg, Cher, Ron Howard, George Foreman and Ted Turner.
