‘The Beaver’ Turns 50 On Tuesday
NEW YORK (AP) _ Say it ain’t so: The Beav turned 50 on Tuesday!
``Right now I feel like I could do 50 more,″ Jerry Mathers said.
The star of ``Leave it to Beaver″ said he is in better shape now than he was as a younger man. He has lost 36 pounds in the last year after taking up a regular exercise program.
``The doctor told me I was badly out of shape,″ he said. ``I had high blood pressure and diabetes, and If I didn’t take care of myself I wouldn’t be here in another three to five years.″
Mathers plans a belated birthday bash Aug. 1 at Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, Calif. Among his invited fans: Steven Spielberg, Cher, Ron Howard, George Foreman and Ted Turner.
