BOSTON (AP) _ The Los Angeles Lakers tried to rebound from their worst loss in a National Basketball Association championship series, while the Boston Celtics fought in Thursday night’s second game to keep their homecourt advantage.

With a devastating display of outside shooting, the defending champion Celtics crushed the Lakers 148-114 in Monday’s opener. Boston set six title series offensive records, including a team field goal percentage of 60.8.

Los Angeles’ previous biggest margin of defeat in the finals was 129-96 to Boston on April 25, 1965.

The Celtics, who beat the Lakers in the championship round last year, placed a high priority on winning the first two games here because of a new scheduling format.

Instead of the traditional method in which the team with the best regular- season record plays at home in the first, second, fifth and seventh games of the best-of-seven final, this year’s setup has that club, the Celtics, at home for the first, second, sixth and seventh games.

That means a victory by the Lakers would even the series at 1-1 and send them home with a chance to win their third title in six seasons at the Forum in Inglewood, Calif.

A victory by Boston, which is trying to become the first repeat champion since the 1969 Celtics, would put the Lakers down 2-0, a position that only four NBA teams have overcome to win a best-of-seven series.
