Sean Abbott takes 6 wickets in strong cricket return
SYDNEY (AP) — Fast bowler Sean Abbott, who bowled the delivery that resulted in the death of batsman Phillip Hughes, has taken six wickets in an innings for New South Wales in a strong return to first class cricket.
The 22-year-old Abbott bowled a short-pitched ball which struck test opener Hughes during a domestic match between New South Wales and South Australia on Nov. 25. Hughes lost consciousness and died two days later in a Sydney Hospital.
There were concerns that Abbott might struggle to return to his best cricket while dealing with the tragedy, but he took 6-14 on Friday as New South Wales dismissed Queensland for 99 to win the Sheffield Shield four-day match by 80 runs.
