Kent Rogers Sr.
Kent “Ken” Bernard Rogers Sr., 62, of Kankakee, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. A time of gathering for family and friends will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, at Jones Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 22, at Morning Star Baptist Church. His brother, Bishop Derwin Rogers Sr. will be the eulogist.
Kent was born May 8, 1957, in Chicago, to the union of Napoleon and Lillie Rogers, being the first of six children.
After graduating from St. Anne Community High School, he attended Olivet Nazarene University, where he studied business administration with a minor in political science. He worked as a real estate professional for more than 25 years.
He was gifted with playing the guitar. It was from this gift that Kent acquired his love of music. He also enjoyed playing the keyboard.
Kent was a member of Life In Christ Family Worship Center International, under the leadership of Pastors Royal and Kimberly McClinton.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 35 years, Cecile “Lisa” Fisher Rogers; two sons, Kent Rogers Jr., of Kankakee, and Jervez Anthony, of Chicago; daughters, Marcia Janeise Rogers, of Atlanta, and Alicia Je’Taun Rogers, of Kankakee; five grandchildren, Amir M. Randolph, Jervez Anthony Jr., Kent J. Rogers III, Kylan G. Rogers and Jaxson Anthony; his mother, Lillie Rogers, of Hopkins Park; three brothers, Bishop Derwin Rogers Sr., Victor (Lorraine) Rogers, of Hopkins Park, and Marcel Rogers, of Kankakee; two sisters, Lydia and Janice Rogers, of Hopkins Park; his uncle, Larry Rogers, of Atlanta; his aunt, Helen Rogers, of Milwaukee; his lifetime friends, Kelton Norris and Mark Hodges, of Chicago; special friends Walter Jones, of Meadville, Miss., and James Carr, of Kankakee; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Kent was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents; his father, Napoleon Rogers; his niece, Arletha Rogers; several beloved aunts and uncles; his father and mother-in law; Narcella and Lucille Fisher; and brother-in-law, Malcolm Fisher.
