Newtown police will take plunge for Special Olympics
NEWTOWN — Police will brave cold waters next month to raise money for Special Olympics Connecticut.
The Newtown officers will be doing this as participants of the Penguin Plunge at Jennings Beach in Fairfield on Saturday, April 6.
The event is presented by the Fairfield Police Department and Fairfield University Department of Public Safety, and all the proceeds go to Special Olympics Connecticut.
The Penguin Plunge is Special Olympics Connecticut’s largest grassroots fundraiser, during which participants raise funds to run into chilly lakes and beaches throughout the state.
As of March 25, Newtown police had raised more than $550 for the event.
Anyone wishing to donate can do so online at classy.org/team/211750.
Donations can also be sent to the Newtown Police Department’s Community Services division. Checks can be made out to Special Olympics of CT.
